John Walling is a Co-owner and the founder of WALLING
CONSULTING. Walling Consulting has a reputation for developing creative web
sites as well as training staff in web and Internet activities.
John has 20 years experience in Management Information Systems and systems
development. He has managed a division of 10 professional staff and 15 support
staff as well as an annual budget averaging $1 million. John's strength lies in
his ability to envisage the end product and all the details that are needed to
achieve it.
Community Activities
John has served as one of the Founding Board Directors and Treasurer of
DARE [Drug Abuse Resistance Education] for the past 10 years. He has
prepared the state and federal registrations and paperwork including taxes for
the organization the entire 10 years. In addition, he is responsible for the
development of the accounting system that tracks each police department's DARE
funds.
John has served on numerous community non-profit and political campaigns as
a volunteer and advocate. He is most passionate about Civil Rights, Freedom of
Speech, and Rights to Privacy.
Previous Work Experience
Laboratory of Pathology of Seattle, 1985-1995
John was asked to come to Laboratory of Pathology as a
co-owner and manager of the new businesses Information Systems division. John's
responsibilities were to develop and supervise a medical laboratory computer
operation. Included among the major objectives were developing systems that
linked the laboratory testing equipment and their results with various clients
of the laboratory - including a hospital, various clinics and medical
facilities, and doctor's offices.
A computer tracking system for pathology was developed under John's
direction. This system allowed pathologists to compare samples from prior exams
with current looking for trends and enhancing diagnostic abilities.
In addition, the billing system for the $20 million dollar per year
organization was developed and maintained by John's division.
John supervised 2 systems analysts, 8 programmers and 15 support staff. John
was responsible for an budget averaging one million dollars for salaries,
operations, new systems, and development.
Laboratory of Pathology was sold to DYNACARE in early 1995. John's part
ownership was bought out at that time.
Swedish Hospital Laboratory, 1977-1985
Swedish Hospital Laboratory became an independent laboratory in
1985. Prior to becoming independent, it was part of the larger Swedish Medical
System. John's position was much the same as at Laboratory of Pathology,
however, the management and ownership aspects were not present.
OTHER WORK, Before 1977
Prior to moving to the Seattle area, John was employed as a
medical laboratory technologist (ASCP registered). He worked at Boulder
Community Hospital in Boulder, Colorado as well as Longmont United Hospital in
Longmont, Colorado. John served 4 years in the United States Air Force as a
communications technician and was stationed for 3 years in Japan.
